Effects of DEET
Deet is loaded into insect repellent, and it’s actually not proven to make a significant difference to in effectiveness to bugs from 30% – 100% concentrate. It is a solvent with capabilities to dissolve plastic, spandex, synthetic fabrics and varnished surfaces. If it’s tough enough to eat through those materials, it is definitely tough enough to eat through human flesh. Using deet often or for long periods of time will cause the chemical to enter the blood stream. As well as spraying the chemical makes it easy for it to be inhaled or come in contact with your eyes and mouth.
Effects of Deet:
– Breathing difficulty and coughing
– Upset stomach, Nausea and vomiting
– Low blood pressure and slow heart beat
– Disorientation
– Irritated skin, hives, rashes, blisters or scarring
– Insomnia
– Mood changes
– Loss of IQ
– Coma
– Nervous system damage
– Seizures
The amount of deet “safe” for humans has not yet been determined but is very dangerous for babies and infants and not recommended for use on children.
